Tech Fair

On the afternoon of the first day, a tech fair was hosted, where several attendees hosted tables where they did demos of their projects and tools. The idea was to offer an opportunity for all participants to get a first-hand look at various projects and talk with the people who developed and implemented them. The projects presented are below:

 

1. Dev Info Support Group, Sameer Thapar, support[at]devinfo.info, www.devinfo.org:

a. Data disseminatioin

b. PDA data capture

c. MDG monitoring globally

2. Sharek 961, sharek961.org, abdallah.chamas[at]gmail.com

a. Based on Ushahidi

b. Deals with vote reporting on Lebanese elections

c. Contributors: organizations, partners

d. Around 200 people contributing/sharing stories

e. Aim: to promote transparency and civil engagement by monitoring the electoral process

3. Souktel: www.souktel.org

a. A platform that allows people to send messages and surveys to pre-defined groups, over the web or mobile phomes

b. Used by NGO, aid providers for accessing beneficiaries: Gaza, West Bank, Iraq,

c. Each organization get their own website

d. Around 20 organizations using it at the moment

e. Slogan: “changing the world one text message at a time”

f. Pushes questions, and can see responses live online

g. Incentivize: use surveys with populations who are somehow connected, to a targeted group, relevant to them

h. Job match: matches those looking for a job matching open jobs, solely based on mobiles

4. Ushahidi
